Vittles for Vets

Vittles for Vets' primary program is addressing hunger among low-income veterans and their families struggling with financial hardship in Southwest Virginia. We provide supplemental assistance through our food insecurity program by issuing biweekly grocery gift cards from local super markets directly to qualified veterans to purchase groceries, with an additional card for Christmas Dinner. The cards can be used on healthy food choices and personal care items, and are not allowed to be used to purchase alcohol, tobacco, or junk food. Our secondary program is temporary assistance for veterans facing hardships such as job loss, illness or injury. Our program expanded to offering Thanksgiving Dinner cards in 2025 and Easter Dinner cards in 2026. We also offer monthly pet cards for those veterans with a furry family member. We currently serve approximately 50 veterans in the New River Valley and surrounding counties.

Vittles for Vets was founded in 2014 in Rhode Island, and moved to Radford, VA in 2015. We have served hundreds of veterans across the region since our inception and are proud to serve the veterans right here at home. We have provided over $850,000 in groceries to veterans over the last 12 years and appreciate your help in fulfilling our mission.

We are run by one part-time staff member and the work of dedicated volunteers. We do our best to keep overhead and administrative costs as low as possible. This helps us put as much of the money we raise into the hands of the struggling veterans whom we serve. We raise all our funds through donors, grants and fundraising events.
