Twenty-five years ago, Mountain Rose dance studio in Floyd burned down. What could have been the end of a program became the beginning of something much bigger when a member of the community stepped forward to help a friend rebuild. A building was donated, professional dance floors were installed, and a new space for young people to create was born.
That simple act of generosity sparked something extraordinary.
Over time, that one dance studio grew into what we now know as The June Bug Center—named in honor of a woman who believed deeply that rural communities like ours deserved strong afterschool programs and opportunities for children, even when resources were limited.
Today, The June Bug Center serves hundreds of students each year through dance, theatre, music, STEAM education, summer camps, and community programming. This summer alone, we’re offering 22 camps, and over the past 25 years, thousands of young people have walked through our doors to find confidence, creativity, friendship, and belonging.
Now, we’re asking the community that built us to help us build the next 25 years.
Our 25K for 25 Years campaign aims to raise $25,000 to support scholarships, affordable programming, theatre productions, STEAM classes, music and dance education, facility improvements, and opportunities for every child who walks through our doors.
Because the truth is simple:
You can’t survive 25 years without community.
We wouldn’t be here today without the love and support of Floyd County and the New River Valley, and we’re so grateful for every family, volunteer, audience member, student, and donor who has helped make the June Bug Center what it is today.

Just like our Giving Tuesday pilot, we’ll have five friendly fundraising teams competing for bragging rights:
Stage Stormers (Theatre)
Tiny Dancers (Dance)
Music Makers (Music)
STEAM Dream Team (STEAM Education)
Board Brigade (Board of Directors)
Each team’s goal: $5,000, contributing to our grand total of $25,000.
