About Us
Blacksburg Master Chorale is a community chorus of more than 100 voices. We sing a large repertoire ranging from major works of the classics as well as lesser known, but no less inspiring, works of contemporary composers. Our singers feel so fortunate to be able to rehearse under the leadership of accomplished directors and to share exceptional music with local audiences.
For our 25-26 Season, we began with Let the Pipes Resound, a celebration of works for organ and choral voices. This was performed both in Roanoke and Blacksburg. Our season continued with The Messiah at the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, on December 14. We had more holiday performances in conjunction with the Blacksburg Children's Chorale, the proceeds of which benefited the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry.
Our spring concert was the magnificent performance of Dwight Bigler's musical composition of Nikki Giovanni's poetry. We performed these pieces, along with others at the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church. In 2027, we will be performing these poems again, but with complete orchestration. That performance will be at the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, with the Virginia Tech orchestra.
At the end of our full year of performances, smaller groups of us continued to perform in outreach to the community. We performed at both Warm Hearth and Commonwealth Assisted Living in Christiansburg.
Also under our banner is the Blacksburg Children's Chorale. The young singers learn music theory, sight reading music and singing along with the Master Chorale in several performances.Behind the scenes of all great performances is a myriad of working parts that include the skilled preparation of paid professionals, little-known but necessary operational expenses, and countless volunteer hours above and beyond singing. This year we hope to raise $10,000 through various giving campaigns, to undergird our plans for another meaningful season of song. Even more importantly we hope to gain new donors who appreciate having the experience of hearing our music. 100% of our Board of Directors donate. Any size donation is greatly appreciated. If you love choral music and you want to hear it continue to thrive in the New River Valley, make a gift to the Blacksburg Master Chorale today! This year we will be singing some major works, some in conjunction with Virginia Tech's music departments. One of those will be the Nikki Giovanni poems, which our Director, Dwight Bigler, put to music. This year he is preparing the orchestration for that music, and we will be performing at Virginia Tech with the Virginia Tech orchestra.
Thank you for your generosity!!
