Together, we can help adults across the NRV hit all the right notes in their literacy learning journey!

A whopping 24,000 adults in our New River Valley community struggle with reading. More than 7% of households speak English less than well. 9,000+ adults in the NRV lack a high school diploma.

Can you imagine how low-literacy skills impact one’s self-esteem and independence as well as ability to find and keep employment, navigate the healthcare system, and support a child's learning?

Together, we can create a community where every adult can achieve independence, empowerment, and self-sufficiency with literacy. 

Now, more than ever, our community needs us. 

Literacy NRV provides life-changing instruction for adults in reading, writing, math, basic computer skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and preparation for exams such as the GED and US Citizenship tests. 

NRV adults need literacy, language and digital skills to understand critical health information, to access community resources when they need help, to obtain basic skills or a GED to secure employment, to combat social isolation, to perform online-job searches, to help their children with homework, and to participate in this new virtual world.

• $35 - Provides a textbook for an adult literacy student
• $55 - Provides training and support for one tutor
• $100 - Provides family literacy instruction to one parent to help him/her learn to read with children
• $150 - Provides a full scholarship for one GED student
• $250 - Provides 1 year of tutoring for an adult literacy student and a book in our library will be dedicated to you
