Live Work Eat Grow

Live, Work, Eat, Grow's mission is to cultivate vibrant communities in the New River Valley. 

We manage Millstone Kitchen a shared-use kitchen designed to launch and grow small food businesses and support a diversity of entrepreneurs. hunger relief programs. We also manage three community gardens including the Hale garden, the Wong Park garden and the new Garrison garden at Cedar Hill.  

Over the past year we have:

Served 30,000 meals to low income, at-risk and elderly individuals through our Neighbors in Need program at Millstone Kitchen. These fresh meals prepared by professional caterers fill a critical gap in meal availability for many that often rely on non-perishables. 

Hosted 12 workshops and events. 

Logged 2,800 volunteer hours

Hosted summer camp for kids at the Hale Garden in collaboration with Parks and Recreation. 

Provided garden plots to over 115 families.

Next year, with your support, we plan to: 

- provide meals to Neighbors in Need in collaboration with hunger relief organizations

- offer more volunteer opportunities to learn about community garden operations

- engage kids and adults in hands-on learning activities

- establish a native plant propagation center in collaboration with the NRV Regional Commission

- begin the planning process for two more gardens in unserved areas of Blacksburg 

- offer start-up support to small business food entrepreneurs 

- install a walk in cooler to increase capacity to store donated produce, fresh meals and local farm products
