Mountain View Humane (MVH)

This year our goal for Give Local NRV is to raise $15,000 to support affordable spay/neuter services for pets across Virginia's Blue Ridge. Thanks to a generous gift from national nonprofit, Petco Love, we're already halfway toward our fundraising goal. They have already committed $7,500, and now we're asking our community to help raise the remaining $7,500. 

Since opening in 2010, Mountain View Humane has performed more than 110,000 affordable spay/neuter surgeries, helping pets live healthier lives while preventing countless unwanted litters.

Thanks to this generous gift from national nonprofit, Petco Love, donations made during Give Local NRV will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $7,500 to help provide lifesaving spay/neuter services for pets in our community.

Spay and Neuter

Spay/neuter is a simple solution to the complex problem of the euthanasia epidemic, which destroys 2.7 million animals each year and is a direct result of animals left unaltered in communities. We strive to sterilize any dog or cat that needs it, regardless of the owner's ability to pay. 

Benefits of Spay and Neuter

• Your pets will live longer, healthier lives. Did you know spay and neuter can prevent many diseases and behavior issues with your companion animals?
• Breast cancer in your female dog is nearly eliminated if she is spayed before her 1st heat cycle. Even if she is spayed after her first cycle, spaying reduces the risk of cancer.
• Neutering your male companion prevents testicular cancer, perianal tumors, and some prostate problems.
• Your spayed female pet won't go into heat. 
• Your male dog will be less likely to roam away from home.
• Spay and neuter helps to reduce uterine infections.
• Spay and neuter may help eliminate unwanted behaviors like marking or aggression.
