The New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Development Foundation exists to help individuals overcome the barriers that stand between them and meaningful employment.

Many of the people we serve have faced tremendous challenges. They are young adults without diplomas or job skills, individuals rebuilding their lives after substance use disorder, people returning to the community after incarceration, and families struggling with poverty and instability.

But what they all share is something powerful: the desire to build a better future.

Through partnerships with the New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Development Board and Consortium Board, the Foundation helps provide the flexible support that can make the difference between opportunity lost and opportunity realized.

Sometimes, success comes down to something simple:

• Transportation to training or work
• Childcare to attend training and/or to start a new job
• Credentialing or certification fees
• Emergency housing or food assistance
• Other critical supports that help someone stay on track

These may seem like small obstacles — but for many individuals, they are the final barrier between unemployment and a steady paycheck.

Your support helps remove those barriers.

Our GiveLocal NRV 2026 goal is $7,500, and every donation directly supports individuals working toward employment, stability, and self-sufficiency. One hundred percent of donations go toward helping participants meet their goals and move forward with dignity and hope.

When you give, you’re not just supporting a program.  You’re helping someone get to work, stay at work, and create a better life for themselves and their family.

$50 Keeps a participant in training for a week by covering transportation or gas.

$250 Covers certification testing fees so a participant can earn their credential.

$500 Provides required work/training gear such as boots, uniforms and tools.

$750 Stabilizes a participant with emergency assistance for rent or utilities.

$1,500 Fully supports one participant through a short-term training program.

$2,000 Removes multiple barriers for a participant while in training (childcare, transportation, food, rent, etc.).

$6,000 Transforms multiple lives by supporting a cohort of participants from training to employment.
