Right here in the New River Valley, over 465 homebound seniors struggle daily with food. It’s not just a matter of proper nutrition, it's basic access to food. Federal statistics on hunger place 1 in 2 seniors at risk of malnutrition. 

The causes stem from physical confinement in the home, limited finances, and lack of a support network to step in and assist. The New River Valley Home Delivered Meals Program (think Meals on Wheels) ensures that these seniors receive regular, nutritious meals.  We are one of the only agencies in Virginia who serves every homebound senior in need in our service area, without a waitlist.  Last year, the NRV Agency on Aging delivered over 74,000 meals to our elderly neighbors in need. 

The demand for our services continues to increase as the cost of food rises. We are relying on community support more than ever to make sure that no homebound senior in the NRV suffers from hunger or malnutrition. Just $12 provides 2 meals for a senior in need. Together, we can all give a little to make a huge impact in the lives of our elderly neighbors.
