The Old Church Gallery is Floyd County, Virginia's Cultural Arts Museum. We opened in 1978 and have been preserving the creative heritage of Floyd County ever since with exhibits, programs, and collections of both physical objects and digitally-archived images, oral histories, and recordings.
To get a sense of the treasures we have to share, please visit us at 110 Wilson Street in Floyd. We are open Fridays from 2:00 to 5:00 and Saturdays 10:00 to 1:00 through mid-December. Until then, tour virtually through our website:
New this year is Kindly Mirrors - The Photography of Gertrue and Richard "Dick" Shank, Sr. This exhibit of thirty large format photographs was taken from circa 1912-1917 negatives. Our exhibit title comes from a Vladimir Nabokov quotation, "...to portray ordinary objects as they will be reflected in the kindly mirrors of future times...when every trifle of our plain everyday life will become exquisite..." The Shanks were a typical young Floyd County farm family who happened to possess a Kodak Brownie camera and the creative spirits to use it to capture the beauty of their world.
Because we are an entirely volunteer organization, every dollar contributed to Old Church Gallery helps cover operating expenses and move our programs forward. The generosity of last year's contributors funded the Kindly Mirrors exhibit. Our most critical need is additional exhibit and storage space; donations made this year will go toward our building fund.
Thank you for considering Old Church Gallery.
