Spikenard Little Sanctuary on Main Street 🐝
What if the thousands of people who visit downtown Floyd every year had a moment to learn about native and honey bees and how to support their health and vitality?
Spikenard has been offered a small 16,000 ft2 green space across from Red Rooster Coffee on the main road through downtown Floyd, Virginia! We want to transform this bare, grassy patch into the Spikenard Little Sanctuary on Main Street! We envision a small but vibrant park where people and pollinators can pause and for a moment dwell together.
Will you help create this Little Sanctuary? Spikenard crew members have picked out native flowering plants that will welcome pollinators like bumble bees, honey bees, moths, and butterflies. We have our wonderful biodynamic practices to help us plant and foster the park. Plus, we are designing interpretive signs about bees. Lastly, we will place a gazebo with a sun hive for a colony of honeybees to live. With a budget of $10,000, we can buy all of the plants, materials for the signs, sun hive supports, and seating for visitors. Spikenard will contribute our help and labor to create this vision with you! With native blooms, interpretive signs, and quiet seating, this pocket park will offer a gentle introduction to the world of pollinating insects and the plants that sustain them. Imagine a place for children and adults alike to rest, reflect, and reconnect with the rhythms of nature. In a world that moves fast, the Spikenard Little Sanctuary on Main Street invites us all to slow down and bloom.
