Our Mission

The World War II Museum of the New River Valley will be a living tribute to the men and women who served, sacrificed, and shaped history during one of the most pivotal times in our nation’s story. It will honor the Greatest Generation while creating hands-on, inspiring experiences for today's youth—and tomorrow’s leaders.

Located on North Main Street in Blacksburg, Virginia, this museum will feature rotating exhibits, educational programming, and interactive experiences that preserve the past while inspiring the future.

About Our Founder: Joseph Collins

The driving force behind the museum is Joseph Collins, a combat veteran, lifelong student of history, and deeply committed public servant.

  • Joe served in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army, deploying in combat zones and developing a profound respect for the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of American service members.
  • Following his military service, he continued protecting his community as a law enforcement officer here in the New River Valley.
  • Joe is also a current member and show jumper with the WWII Airborne Demonstration Team out of Oklahoma, preserving the memory of World War II paratroopers through authentic living history reenactments and parachute jumps in full period gear.

His dedication to honoring the Greatest Generation and educating today’s youth led to the creation of this museum. With every story, every artifact, and every lesson taught inside its walls, Joe’s mission is clear: Preserve the past. Inspire the future.
