Wytheville Training School Cultural Center Inc

The Wytheville Training School Cultural Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2000 with the mission of preserving the historic Wytheville Training School. Originally built in 1883 for African American children, the school remained operational until 1952. Within the Cultural Center, we house an African American Heritage Museum that features photographs, narratives, and memorabilia, showcasing the history of African American education in Wythe County.  

Support Our Free Youth Theatre Camp

Each year, the Wytheville Training School Cultural Center proudly hosts a FREE Youth Theatre Camp for children ages 8 to 12. This five-day program offers a unique opportunity for young participants to explore the world of theatre, including acting, set and prop design, teamwork, and leadership development. Your generous support helps us provide healthy meals and snacks to all camp attendees, ensuring they stay energized and focused throughout their experience.

More than just a theatre camp, this is a chance for children to unplug from technology, build social and developmental skills, and engage in a positive, creative environment. We believe every child deserves access to enriching experiences that foster personal growth—and with your help, we can continue to make that possible.  This camp is led by a seasoned Broadway actor and a dynamic caring team. Our project name is the Wytheville Training School Book Hub, “ Where learning is fun for ANYONE.” Our goal is to raise $27,000.00 to restore the Rockdale building to become an area to support reading and learning. This area will be designed to support formal and informal learning in person as well as virtually. The building is more than 125 years old, in need of paint, flooring, shelves, and seating. With the support of donations, this unique historic building will soon house diverse books, hard-to-find books, and books that are age-appropriate.
