Our team is thrilled to share that we reached our $200,000 fundraising goal for the Higher Impact fund! This means that we unlocked the incredibly generous $100,000 gift from the Secular Society.
This endowed fund will help us do so much in the years to come. From supporting our collaborative efforts to funding all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into our grants and scholarships programs, this endowment will support us as we look to our next 30 years.
Everything we do at the Community Foundation is a team effort and this fundraising campaign was no different. We could not be more delighted to end 2024 by reaching this milestone.
It's been a wonderful and eventful year. As we look to 2025, we are so glad to be working along with supporters like you.

Celebrating 30 Years
At the Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV), we believe that everyone adds depth and richness to the collective story of the place we call home.
Our story began in 1994, when a small group of volunteers established the CFNRV to ensure local dollars would benefit our community now and for generations to come. In the last 30 years, thousands of donors, scholarship recipients, grantee organizations, volunteers, and partners have added to that story. Here are some of our successes:
2024 Scholarship Luncheon

$1.2 Million in Scholarships
Since 2002, we have awarded 1,200+ scholarships to students pursuing higher education. About 20% of our recipients each year are the first generation in their family to attend college. -
Regional Collaboration
Dozens of nonprofit, business, and government leaders take part in collaborative initiatives led by the CFNRV. These initiatives increase access to high quality, affordable childcare, improve health, expand the distribution of fresh food to those in need, train nonprofit leaders, and much more.

We have made 5,600+ grants to organizations working in the arts, animal welfare, health and human services, natural resource conservation, education, food access, emergency assistance, and more. -
$4.3 Million Raised by the GiveLocalNRV Giving Day
Since the inception of the GiveLocalNRV Giving Day in 2014, thousands of donors have made 25,600+ gifts to organizations serving the NRV.

To grow the CFNRV’s impact over the next 30 years, the CFNRV’s Board of Directors established The Higher Impact Fund, an endowment created to provide annual, flexible dollars to support all CFNRV priorities. It allows us to better respond in times of crisis or natural disaster.
It enables the multi-year support we’ve given to partnerships that expand access to healthcare, nutrition, and education. It increases the number of grants and scholarships we can award each year. In short, the Higher Impact Fund helps our team do even more to reach people across our community.
The Secular Society, a private NRV philanthropy, is giving $100,000 to the Higher Impact Fund since the CFNRV raised $200,000 from the broader community. Thank you to each one of you who helped make this happen!
