GiveLocalNRV is an annual online giving day on June 23, 2021, hosted by the Community Foundation of the New River Valley.  Funding from this will go towards our plans for the 2021-2022 year, which include:

  • To continue offering sliding scale tuition for our programs in Floyd JAMs, LEGO, Robotics, Computer Camp, Blue Ridge Strings, Acting Out, Musical Theatre for Teens, and Improv.
  • Continue providing quality instruments to families who are enrolled in our programs at no extra cost.
  • Work with the Floyd Community Theatre Guild for their 2021-2022 season, which includes "The Little Mermaid," "The Addams Family,” and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Jr."
  • Continue partnerships with the Virginia Blue Ridge Music Festival and have our Blue Ridge Strings students perform at the June 28th concert.
  • Helping local artists by offering creative spaces at an affordable cost.

Our Mission: The June Bug Center for Arts and Education (JBC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to providing music, performing arts, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) through ongoing afterschool programs, classes, and community theatre productions that are affordable to the New River Valley community.

About the Bug: The main focus of the JBC is to provide affordable opportunities in music, performing arts, and STEAM. In 2010, The JBC started offering afterschool programs Monday through Friday, which include: Floyd JAMS (Junior Appalachian Musicians), LEGO & Robotics Club, Blue Ridge Strings, Computer Camp, Acting Out, Musical Theatre for Teens, and Improv. These programs cover a variety of interests such as old-time music, classical music, engineering, coding, theatre, dance, and musical theatre. The JBC also rents out space to local artists to offer affordable classes to the community such as dance, gymnastics, aikido, and yoga. All of these programs are ongoing throughout the school year. In 2014, the JBC also became home to the Floyd Community Theatre Guild (FCTG) that provides affordable performances for the community. In 2018, the JBC was voted "Non-Profit of The Year," by the Floyd Chamber of Commerce.

Thanks to the community, fundraising, program funding, and grant funding, the June Bug Center for Arts and Education (JBC) is able to offer programs to the community and low-income families to ensure that every child has access to these opportunities.
