Our Mission: To reduce financial strain and provide support to NRV residents who do not qualify for or need assistance beyond the limits of existing programs and resources.
Our Vision: To build a self-sustaining network of community partners that ensures ongoing support for NRV residents in need.
Our Impact in 2024

- 10 single mothers & 17 children maintained stable housing and utilities
- 8 elderly/disabled individuals assisted with housing and essential needs
- 4 homeless individuals & 5 homeless families supported in securing stable housing
- 6 over-income households received emergency assistance for unexpected crises
- 3 individuals helped with transportation to return to their home communities
NRCA serves Radford City and the Counties of Montgomery, Giles, Floyd, and Pulaski, Virginia.
New River Community Action (NRCA) works with our community’s most vulnerable residents, including the homeless, ex-offenders, the disabled, and struggling young families. NRCA offers a variety of programs to improve the lives of low-income people. Some services address basic needs such as food, shelter, and utilities. Comprehensive early childhood programs promote school readiness, healthy families, and effective parenting.
NRCA offers help and hope through services that meet basic needs, strengthen families, and promote economic stability. NRCA's focus is not only to fulfill basic needs but to build brighter futures. NRCA helps over 8,000 individuals each year improve their lives by providing them essential services and life-changing opportunities through educational and case management support, as well as accessing available affordable housing, food, health care, crisis assistance, and more.
NRCA holds the conviction that poverty is not an acceptable condition in our communities. We believe that alleviating conditions of poverty is attainable through joint community efforts. Each of us has something to contribute; each of us can play a part.
