Alix's Plenty! Give Local NRV

I started volunteering with Plenty! 2 years ago, picking up surplus produce and dairy from Food Lion. Last year I started working here as admin assistant and recently as Assistant Director, and I've learned so much about food insecurity, specifically here in Floyd County. We regularly serve up to 19% of Floyd County residents through our drive-thru pantries, mobile pantries, and home deliveries. Plenty! relies on a team of 50-60 volunteers each week to help our 5-person staff accomplish all of these programs. We absolutely couldn't do it without them. 

This place is special. We help people who are hungry, and we try to reduce the stigma and shame associated with food insecurity, treating all of our patrons with respect and dignity. We partner with other agencies to educate people about healthy foods and how to prepare them. We encourage community and sharing within our county and beyond. I'm so proud to be a part of this team.

We pick up surplus food donations daily from Food Lion and other partners. And sometimes those donations aren't enough and we need to purchase food, sometimes discounted and sometimes not. In addition, we need to maintain our grounds, building, farm, and vehicles so that we can continue all these programs.
