Our goal is to build an off-leash, fenced yard for our dogs to run and play!

Fellow animal lovers, thank you for stopping by our Giles County Animal Shelter fundraising page! We are thrilled to be included in this, our first, the 2024 GiveLocalNRV Giving Day. As we continue to expand our little shelter, we need YOUR help!

A fenced Enrichment Yard for our dogs is what we hope to build. Approximately 80% of the dogs we take into custody are strays- often discarded by their owners. Many of them were likely chained to a dry-rotted dog house, forced to lay in mud, and aimlessly pace in a circle day after day. Others were irresponsibly bred and tossed aside once their owners profited from the litter of puppies.

We want to give our dogs opportunities they were likely never afforded prior to coming to us. Our dogs deserve a safe space where they can roll around in the grass until their fur is green and frolic freely to their hearts content. Additionally, we would like to provide them with playground equipment where they can rebuild their strength, stimulate their minds, and increase their confidence. The project we are asking for your assistance with will further improve the lives of our canine companions while they are in our care.

Our rural, quaint Giles County Animal Shelter sits in a lovely patch of woods on the outskirts of Pearisburg. Please come visit us. We would love to show you the care and compassion these animals receive, as well as discuss our plans for the future! If you can see it in your heart to help build the Yard, our canine friends will be eternally grateful.

Below is the proposed space we will utilize for our Enrichment Yard. This part of the property sits on the outskirts- which will give our dogs time away from the noisy hustle and bustle of everyday shelter life!
