HELP US SHARE THE MUSIC!
Our family was introduced to the Handmade Music School last year, and we've had so much fun getting to know this awesome group of people!
Helena attended the after school Youth Stringband Program last fall and this spring, and has continued to learn so many things on the fiddle! She's had a lot of fun with friends, too, and singing and dancing and learning about the unique heritage of the Appalachian Mountains and the lovely Floyd county that we've called home for 4 years.
Leigh started working with the HMS admin team in January of 2025, and has been very happy with this shift from academia. Although she grew up just down the road, she didn't learn much about the history or heritage of this community, and it's been wonderful to step into a place so deeply seeped in these traditions. Plus, the people are fantastic, and there's nothing quite like helping kids -- and students of all ages -- learn to love music, cultivate friendships, and strengthen our community!
Branden and Damien have been pulled along for the ride, but are enjoying the social gatherings, meeting new people, and learning to play the banjo (in Branden's case), and learning more about the fiddle (Damien) in hopes of playing that one day soon! Or who knows, maybe he'll pick up the guitar or mandolin!
I hope you'll consider supporting our family raise money for the Handmade Music School in this fundraiser.
Thank you for helping us continue to bring these incredibly rich music traditions to life all year long!
