Giving Tuesday is a national event created to inspire the joy of giving during the holiday season. Please consider donating to SustainFloyd to help us continue our work to support our local environment, agriculture, renewable energy, and community well-being. For this Giving Tuesday we are focusing on three main areas that need funding: SNAP Benefits Program: Improving Access to Local Foods
For every dollar donated, the SNAP program will match it. This means that with a $25 donation you allow a family in need to buy $50 worth of healthy local food. Your donation will go directly to helping local families purchase food from local farmers.
Youth Engage Video Competition In 2019 we worked on a pilot project with a local high school group to create a video of teenage views on climate change. In 2021 we plan to follow this project with a wider call for input from the young generation. Listening to the perspectives of young people is critical in learning how to support them as they face an uncertain future. This event will be linked to our online Eco Fair, which allows us to reach a wider audience with our call for entries and with the screening of the videos. Your donations will provide funding for this larger venture, including providing technical support and prizes for the competition. You will be helping to amplify the voices of our young people.
The Blue Ridge Virtual Eco Fair The message on the Blue Ridge Virtual Eco Fair, ‘Making Choices the Matter’ ,is about finding the path towards achievable sustainability in one’s own life. Topics include food & farming, home & housing, energy & transportation and using your voice for change. Much of the work for the Fair has been done. For our original scheduled date in November 2019 we have established the platform for the event and filmed and collected a solid foundation of content. Now, through rescheduling to April 24 & 25 2021, we have a chance to create an even more substantial event and to reach out for greater engagement, including to colleges and schools. Your donation will help with the ongoing development, growth, and implementation of this project.
