Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry is a food bank that offers basic food supplies, once a month, to low-income Blacksburg/McCoy residents or those in emergency situations, including homeless individuals and families.
The Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry was formed as a cooperative effort by area churches. The Pantry is staffed by volunteers from the participating churches, other organizations, and volunteers from the community.
Food and monetary donations come from local churches, civic clubs, schools, businesses, Virginia Tech organizations, and various food drives (including the annual U.S. Postal Service drive). We also receive donations from local businesses. In season, fresh vegetables are donated by local residents. Several members of our community grow food specifically for the food pantry. We have a relationship with Feeding America and receive contributions from Kroger, Food Lion, Blacksburg Bagels, and Panera.
Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry is a program of New River Community Action (NRCA.) NRCA works with our community’s most vulnerable residents, including the homeless, ex-offenders, the disabled, and struggling young families. NRCA offers a variety of programs to improve the lives of low-income people. Some services address basic needs such as food, shelter, and utilities. Comprehensive early childhood programs promote school readiness, healthy families, and effective parenting.
NRCA offers help and hope through services that meet basic needs, strengthen families, and promote economic stability. NRCA's focus is not only to fulfill basic needs but to build brighter futures. NRCA helps over 8,000 individuals each year improve their lives by providing them essential services and life-changing opportunities through educational and case management support, as well as accessing available affordable housing, food, health care, crisis assistance, and more.
NRCA holds the conviction that poverty is not an acceptable condition in our communities. We believe that alleviating conditions of poverty is attainable through joint community efforts. Each of us has something to contribute; each of us can play a part.
