The Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry has served food-insecure families in the greater Blacksburg–McCoy area for nearly 40 years. What began as a small community effort has grown into a vital resource for hundreds of local families facing hunger and hardship. Our mission is not only to provide food but to ensure that our neighbors are treated with dignity, compassion, and care during difficult times.
The need in our community has grown dramatically. The Pantry has experienced a 2.2-fold increase in demand for its services since 2021. Today, we serve approximately 385 households each month, reaching more than 1,100 individuals, including 400 children. Behind every number is a family making impossible choices between groceries, rent, healthcare, and transportation. Rising food costs and housing instability continue to place enormous pressure on working families, seniors, and children throughout the greater Blacksburg–McCoy area. In response, the Pantry has expanded both its services and its partnerships to meet this growing need with nutritious food and meaningful support.
Collaboration is central to our work. We partner with local churches, growers, gleaning organizations, schools, and nonprofit agencies to maximize resources and expand access to healthy food. A key partnership is our ongoing work with Montgomery County Public Schools, through which we help provide food support to families with school-age children who are experiencing homelessness or lack permanent housing. Together with our community partners, volunteers, and donors, we are building a stronger and more compassionate network of support for families across our region.
