When I first encountered Springhouse back in 2019, I was drawn to its vision of creating a more vital, connected, and caring culture. Over the years, that vision has become something I have experienced firsthand.
This year, that experience deepened when my son, Liam, was born in February.
Becoming a parent has shown me the importance of intergenerational community. From the beginning of his life, Liam has been surrounded by people of all ages who understand that children thrive when their well-being is centered and they are held in relationships rooted in reciprocity, care, and love for the Earth.
I have watched five-year-olds make him laugh, teenagers give him a “fist bump", and elders offer tenderness and wisdom. Each person brings something unique, and each relationship nourishes him (and me) in a different but vital way.
What moves me most is that these relationships go both ways. Liam receives care, but he also invites others into awe, patience, joy, curiosity, and connection. Everyone is growing.
When I think of Springhouse, I think of a spring itself. A source of life that nourishes what surrounds it. Here, young people take on meaningful responsibility, adults continue to grow and learn, elders remain connected to community life, and the land is treated as relationship rather than resource.
These kinds of places are rare, and they are essential.
Many people feel that something important has gone missing in how we live, learn, and belong. Too often, generations are separated from one another. We need places where children, adults, and elders can develop together, where each person's growth contributes to the flourishing of others.
Springhouse is one community's response to that need. Not with a theory, but with a way of life.
This June, Springhouse is raising $120,000 to sustain the staff, the land, and the practices that keep this community alive. Every gift helps keep the spring flowing.
Please consider giving today. Your support helps tend a spring that nourishes not only this community, but ripples outward through the lives of everyone it touches.
