Hello, I'm Jeret Phelps. I deeply care about the community at Springhouse. I first heard about Springhouse from my older brother, who went there in high school. My first real interaction with the school, though, was a presentation night during my brother's senior year. While attending, I got to see the personal passions that students were being encouraged to explore. The most impactful moment for me, however, was my brother's capstone project. When a project he had finished on a whim, staying up late the night before to complete it, brought me to tears. Seeing his confidence as he talked about his growth and the passion he brought to advocating for accessibility made me realize that I deeply needed the same kinds of support he had gotten in his education. Once I started to get more involved with Springhouse, I very quickly started receiving support and encouragement to dive deeper into my passions. In a printing camp led by Sarah P. I was encouraged to make a project based around my passions. I decided to make a poster depicting an invasive species, and my passion for ecological justice only bloomed from there. Now that I find myself reaching a similar point, graduation approaching and my passions leading my way, I hope more than anything that others will be able to receive the same support I did in these last two years.
This June, Springhouse is raising $120,000 to sustain the staff, the land, and the practices that keep this community alive, and to support what's next, including working with land and creativity to grow food and make art, attuning to the seasons year round.
You are not just supporting an organization. You are tending a spring, one that nourishes our local community and ripples out, inspiring people and places beyond.
