           I had never been to a school like Springhouse before. I used to go to a public school where I was taught only to pass a test, and was just another number. I soon became very bored and uninspired with this method of learning. I wanted change, and amidst the chaos of covid I was able to find Springhouse. During my short time in Springhouse, I have been able to go on a camping trip, work with film cameras, launch a rocket, participate in mentorship groups, and virtually meet people who are struggling in Arab countries. To me, making all of this possible during a pandemic shows the dedication and love that the Springhouse community has for their students. Playing soccer and going on a paddling trip with Springhouse brings me alive and has helped me keep in touch with myself and my body. I am constantly inspired by the adults who mentor/teach us, and also my fellow students. At Springhouse there is a harmonious energy radiating from everyone. What I find most inspiring about Springhouse, which differs from most schools, is that every member is equally important and everyone’s voices are heard and recognized. I feel empowered knowing that I am a part of a community who is striving for change and bettering the future of education.

           What brings me alive at the Springhouse Community School is the amazing internship program. I have never been to a school that is willing to listen to what the students want to learn and need. I shared with them my passion for cooking and all of a sudden a cooking internship was offered. I felt so lucky! The whole experience was filled with amazing people who were willing to come to Springhouse and teach about many cooking techniques along with telling interesting stories. The best part of it all was that we could enjoy the delicious food we had prepared after! I will never forget this, and I am so grateful to the staff who were willing to help create this, thank you!
