Help Keep Survivors Safe-Support Our Shelter & Services! - Courtney’s Fundraising Page

$500 goal

My name is Courtney Amos, and I am the Communications Manager for the Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley (WRCNRV.) This is my personal fundraising page for the WRCNRV’s GiveLocalNRV Campaign.

This past year, our federal government cut approximately $400,000 from our budget. A budget that goes to the WRCNRV’s Cornerstone program.

In addition to the emergency shelter option, the Women’s Resource Center offers transitional housing for adults and children fleeing domestic violence. Families who leave the emergency shelter and desire a supportive living environment have the option of applying for transitional housing apartments before stepping out on their own. The transitional program, Cornerstone, includes seven apartments in a community-style setting.

At Cornerstone, staff members work with residents to identify barriers, set goals, and take steps to achieve their aspirations. Counseling, support groups, community resource assistance, legal advocacy, and transportation also are offered to residents.

Children who stay at Cornerstone receive one-on-one attention with our staff. The WRC Children’s Program staff assess the needs of each child. During their stay, staff provide therapeutic, educational, and recreational services.

Without this funding, many of our services are in crisis.

The work that all my coworkers do every day goes above and beyond any work I’ve ever been a part of. I have never met a more willing group of people to help, care, and create positive change, than the staff at the WRCNRV.

I hope you will donate to this cause with me, l wish everyone in the New River Valley to know of and have access to the WRCNRV.

A recent loss of federal funding puts our shelter and critical survivor services at risk. We provide emergency housing, crisis response, counseling, prevention programming, and legal advocacy for adult and children survivors of domestic and sexual violence, but we need your help to continue this work. Your support ensures that survivors have a safe place to turn, 24/7.

Join us in keeping hope alive.
