Three scholarship students hold their certificates at spring celebration

1. Surpassed $1.43 million in scholarships awarded since 2002.

This spring, the CFNRV awarded more than $170,000 in scholarships to 93 students either from the New River Valley (NRV) or studying here. This outstanding group of students includes 57 high school seniors, 35 college students, and one future veterinarian. 21 of these students are the first in their families to attend college or university. Since awarding our first scholarship in 2002, we have given out $1.43 million in scholarships to 1,126 students.

2. Bought our very own office.

After many years of renting, we were thrilled to learn of a condo office space for sale in Blacksburg’s Professional Park (off North Main Street). Our team worked closely with the CFNRV Board of Directors to determine whether the space fit our needs, and it did. We purchased the office earlier this year and plan to move in December after some renovations are complete. We look forward to inviting supporters like you to visit in the new year!

3. Raised $796,053 during the Giving Day & celebrated at the Lyric.

In another incredible demonstration of the power of community, 3,465 donors raised $796,053 for 112 organizations during the 12th annual GiveLocalNRV Giving Day! To celebrate this year, we held an in-person event at the Lyric Theatre in Blacksburg to kick off the Giving Day on Wednesday, June 25.

During the two-hour celebration, we partnered with Michael Hemphill of Buzz4Good to uplift the stories of our Giving Day participants. Michael, a longtime friend of the CFNRV, interviewed 18 nonprofits on stage, including us, and shared videos highlighting many others. The event also included musical performances from two youth-based Giving Day participants: Floyd’s Handmade Music School and Montgomery County Junior Appalachian Musicians.

Several dozen grantees celebrate In November, we celebrated 94 grantees at Sinkland Farms in Riner.

Among the 90+ organizations and projects celebrated at our Annual Grantee Luncheon this November was Mountain Valor Veteran Services, a new organization empowering veterans with tools, resources, and connections to thrive. Their message of thanks after the luncheon captured perfectly how we strive to work with nonprofit partners across our region:

"CFNRV has walked beside us for the past year and a half — offering mentorship, guidance, and steady support as we’ve grown our work across rural Virginia. Their belief in our mission has mattered just as much as the funding.” - Mountain Valor Veteran Services

Relationships Make Our Work Possible

Since 1994, we have awarded more than $9 million in grants and scholarships, including more than $700,000 in 2025 alone. Our annual accomplishments are enriched by the relationships we build with grantees, scholarship recipients, volunteers, and donors. Through these relationships, we better understand our region’s needs and the amazing people working to meet those needs every day.

In the next few weeks, we'll be sharing our top ten favorite stories and milestones of 2025. You'll learn read about our work to recognize early childhood educators, support food assistance organizations, promote the GiveLocalNRV Giving Day, and more, you will see how our emphasis on building meaningful, long-lasting relationships allows us to leverage our funding for greater impact.
