Several dozen grant winners gather at Sinkland Farms

10. Awarded $269,154.68 in Competitive Grants.

In November, we celebrated 94 grantees at a reception in Riner at Sinkland Farms. During this year’s cycle, 68 funds participated in awarding the grants, which included 76 Responsive Grantees that received unrestricted support. These grantees were mostly nonprofits, but also included a few units of local government.

Additionally, we awarded 18 grants to public schools for a variety of specific projects proposed by teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators. These grants especially showcase the power of a small amount of money going a long way. Applicants received grants ranging from $600 to $1,500 for classroom-based projects, field trips, programs that meet students’ basic needs, and more.

Among the 90+ organizations and projects celebrated at our Annual Grantee Luncheon this November was Mountain Valor Veteran Services, a new organization empowering veterans with tools, resources, and connections to thrive. Their message of thanks after the luncheon captured perfectly how we strive to work with nonprofit partners across our region:

"CFNRV has walked beside us for the past year and a half — offering mentorship, guidance, and steady support as we’ve grown our work across rural Virginia. Their belief in our mission has mattered just as much as the funding.” - Mountain Valor Veteran Services

Relationships Make Our Work Possible

Since 1994, we have awarded more than $9 million in grants and scholarships, including more than $700,000 in 2025 alone. Our annual accomplishments are enriched by the relationships we build with grantees, scholarship recipients, volunteers, and donors. Through these relationships, we better understand our region’s needs and the amazing people working to meet those needs every day.

In the next few weeks, we'll be sharing our top ten favorite stories and milestones of 2025. You'll learn read about our work to recognize early childhood educators, support food assistance organizations, promote the GiveLocalNRV Giving Day, and more, you will see how our emphasis on building meaningful, long-lasting relationships allows us to leverage our funding for greater impact.
