The Fund for the NRV is the engine that powers all of the Community Foundation of the New River Valley's programs, including our grant and scholarship awards and collaborations to expand access to food, high quality childcare, and healthcare.

Inspiring Early Educators

For NRV famHigh schoolers sit around a table and listen to a talk from a childcare providerilies to access high quality, affordable childcare, we need to recruit and retain early educators. The Fund for the NRV supports the annual "Those Who Can, Teach" Career Day co-sponsored by New River Community College and Early Childhood Education Initiatives at Virginia Tech.

Childcare providers lead a series of workshops for more than 60 high school students from across the NRV interested in careers in early childhood education and development.



Promoting NRV Nonprofits

Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center and CFNRV team members celebrate the 2024 Giving DayGiveLocalNRV helps 120+ nonprofits share their stories and raise money for their missions. The Fund for the NRV underwrites the platform, training, marketing, and the staff support essential to making the annual giving day a success.

Since 2014, nonprofits have raised more than $4.3 million through the annual GiveLocalNRV Giving Day.



Expanding Access to Fresh Food

Members of the Giles Community Garden pack a truck bed with produceThe Fund for the NRV supports Thrive, a network of food pantries and feeding programs dedicated to providing nutritious food to neighbors in need.

Thrive publishes the NRV Food Assistance Directory, and Thrive members like the NRV Glean Team and Giles Community Garden distribute fresh produce across the region. In Giles, Thrive partners distributed more than 51,000 pounds of fresh food in 2024 alone.
