Abby Touchstone loves the YMCA at VT!!

INVEST IN THE NEXT 150 YEARS. 

In my last four years at Virginia Tech, the YMCA has completely transformed my college experience. In my time at the Y, I have learned that it is crucial to the Blacksburg community by supporting both students and locals, and bridging the gap between the two. Through leading the Y-TOSS program, I have helped divert 30+ tons of goods from the waste stream and provide these items to incoming students at a low cost. In the past four years, I have only seen this program grow and continue to address the sustainability needs of Virginia Tech. Each year during the sale, students and parents inform me that they are grateful for our efforts - whether it saves them a trip to Walmart, helps them participate in sustainable practice, or provides an affordable alternative for dorm essentials. Additionally, I have served as President of Y Student Programs for the past year. The YMCA at Virginia Tech has allowed me to improve my leadership and communication skills as I have led each of the student programs. Most of all, I am grateful for the community of students, Y-Staff, and volunteers that I have met at the Y. These connections will stay with me after  graduation and into my career, as will my leadership and sustainability efforts in Blacksburg. With your support, the Y’s efforts will be able to expand to impact future students and Blacksburg residents!
