Your continued support helps Blue Mountain School serve our students and our Floyd community. As a nonprofit school every dollar is used to support our programming.

Your donations go to support tuition assistance and help us continue to be accessible to all families.   Accessibility to our school takes many forms, and a key aspect is ensuring our campus can support our community.

This Give Local, we're focusing our efforts on improving our beloved campus. Our sweet campus needs help accommodating our thriving population. Not only are we bursting at the seams, but the buildings that shelter our learning are over four decades old and showing signs of wear.

For 44 years, Blue Mountain School has been serving our community through our project-based,  Contemplative Progressive curriculum. The school offers a truly distinctive learning environment rooted in our philosophy that blends mindfulness, outdoor immersion, and project-based academic experiences. Educators honor children’s questions and intrinsic curiosity, offering materials and experiences that encourage exploration, reflection, and choice. This approach supports deep, meaningful learning rather than following a rigid, age-based curriculum. We emphasize the growth of mind, heart, creativity, body, and spirit. A balanced mix of academics, art, music, life skills, social‑emotional learning, and mindfulness makes every child’s development central.

After all these years supporting dynamic place-based learning, our campus needs support.  Every year since 2020 our enrollment has grown, our waiting lists have increased, and each summer, our community has helped us focus on enhancing each building to better serve our students.

This year it’s building 474’s turn for much needed repairs!

Every space on our campus holds memories, and Building 474 is one of the most beloved and storied corners of Blue Mountain School.

In the early days of our campus, building 474 was first built as an openair pottery studio. It was a place where students and teachers created art under the sun and stars - hands in clay, surrounded by mountain breezes and inspiration.  As our school evolved, so did this little building. We added walls, plumbing, warmth -  and with that, it became a vibrant classroom and a flexible indoor learning space that has worn many hats over the years. It has most recently served as the Ruby classroom. It’s been an office, a forest classroom, and sheltered learning for multiple ages of classrooms. Generations of children have grown, learned, imagined, and played within its walls. It has supported art and academics, emotions and friendships. It has truly been a vessel for our values.

Now in June of 2025, as we reach our highest enrollment, this humble structure is ready for its next transformation, and we need to make space for our growing students and our growing population - and we need your help to get there.

As we planned essential repairs for building 474, we realized the need for repairs also provides us with solutions!

We are thrilled to partner with Leftbank Construction LLC to make essential repairs and unlock new potential. Together, we'll double the square footage in the classroom, and add two more ADA compliant bathrooms to our campus. We'll improve accessibility for all students and families. This isn’t just a renovation—it’s a reinvestment in the heart of our campus and in the future of learning at Blue Mountain School.

Giving Day begins at noon on June 25th, and continues until noon on June 26th! You can begin supporting us now! Early Giving has begun! If you’ve ever stepped foot on our campus, you know that every corner carries a story.

Help us make sure Building 474 is ready for its next chapter and donate today!
