MY SPRINGHOUSE STORY

One of the great joys of my life is being a part of this intergenerational learning community that orients around values I deeply believe in while working to fundamentally transform the educational paradigm of our dominant culture.

Because of the intimacy of our educational model and my role as a Trustee, course facilitator and mentor, I have had the opportunity to develop rich and meaningful connections with young people at our school. These relationships begin when they are students and often extend into adulthood as they reach out for guidance and support after graduation.

I know how much these young people value what Springhouse offers.  I know how much they appreciate being a part of a learning community that invites their authenticity  and then lovingly tends the risk and vulnerability it takes to express it. Each year, their stories inspire me to do all I can to ensure Springhouse continues to thrive.

I hope you will consider supporting us.

Pictured above is me and my young friend, Skyler, at an Education Reimagined conference in Milwaukee many years ago. Since our first meeting when he entered the 8th grade at Springhouse, we have spent countless hours learning together. His passionate, creative, and visionary spirit has deeply influenced how I see the world.

This is a recent picture of us at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia, where Skyler currently lives.  Over a picnic lunch, I heard all about what it's been like for him to leave home and start a life on his own.

Building Beloved Community for 11 Years in Floyd County and Beyond

Springhouse envisions a world where all life thrives. Through our intergenerational school and community print shop, we are committed to creating a culture that takes care of life, one person and one community at a time. At large, the culture we live in does not care for vulnerability. Now more than ever, we need places to practice taking better care of vulnerability and living in ways that are in greater alignment with life.

Springhouse is a place for anyone who wants to practice living in ways that take better care of life. Though their programs have fees, Springhouse is committed to accessibility – no one is turned away for financial reasons.

This work will take generations. Your gift allows Springhouse to continue offering accessible and equitable programs for all.
