I continue to be blown away by the work I get to be a part of at Springhouse. It is bold, thoughtful, strategic, and grounded. It combines a huge and ambitious vision, with a consistent place to practice it every day. Sometimes I get lost in these words, but the truth is I get to see and be a part of personal and community transformations at Springhouse. This inspires me to continue my work of becoming more authentic, caring, and effective, something that has taken on more meaning as I have become a father.
Some highlights from my year are:
-We had over 120 people attend our 3rd annual Procession of Appalachian Species with giant puppets and costumes celebrating all our regions' different species. This is a wild and creative community celebration aimed at deepening our connection to the non-human world.
-We started a bilingual elementary school program and welcomed 13 Spanish-speaking students and teachers from Central America into our school community. I taught classes in Spanglish and we became stronger and more resilient as a community.
-Sarah and I had a baby named Aurora in January! She became the youngest member of our school and was raised by our students and staff each day at school.
-Our High School explored Immigration in our Main Course. We studied the natural world for clues on doing things differently, explored current events, and learned from immigrants and experts within the immigration system.
I hope you will consider giving to Springhouse this year. I promise that the funds will be used with the utmost care and will continue to make Springhouse active, equitable, and accessible to all.
Building Beloved Community for 11 Years in Floyd County and Beyond
Springhouse envisions a world where all life thrives. Through our intergenerational school and community print shop, we are committed to creating a culture that takes care of life, one person and one community at a time. At large, the culture we live in does not care for vulnerability. Now more than ever, we need places to practice taking better care of vulnerability and living in ways that are in greater alignment with life.
Springhouse is a place for anyone who wants to practice living in ways that take better care of life. Though their programs have fees, Springhouse is committed to accessibility – no one is turned away for financial reasons.
This work will take generations. Your gift allows Springhouse to continue offering accessible and equitable programs for all.
