Springhouse is needed now more than ever. It’s a learning community where young people experience welcome - especially young people who are vulnerable in a culture that is hostile towards immigrants and queer people. Perhaps more importantly, it’s a learning community that is truly innovative. The challenges we face collectively are great, and it’s so clear that going forward we need new approaches to these challenges. Springhouse is one of the few places that is actually taking this necessity out of the theoretical space and putting experiments on the ground in action. It’s not perfect, but it’s real and it’s desperately needed. Like Einstein is credited with saying 'we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.' A new world is possible, and at Springhouse you can see that it’s on its way.
We are committed to making this learning experience accessible to anyone and everyone regardless of their financial situation. This means in addition to tuition and grant funding we rely on the support of people outside our immediate circle to help make this possible. Thank you for your support!
From Chris:
For about the last 9 years Springhouse has been the center of my world. I have given freely of my time and energy, my creativity and my love. I have seen the beautiful results in my students, and I have received so much along the way. It’s been a formation in personal development, in experimentation and iterative design, in community building, and in creating life-giving culture.
I will be starting a Masters of Social Work in the Fall and I will be leaving this precious, light-filled circle. I am able to step away in part because I have been doing one of the things Springhouse teaches us to do - cultivating my gifts and listening to what Life is asking me to do with them. So wherever I go next, it will be a continuation of this work.
From Roxanne:
Springhouse is a living, breathing example of hope for many people in our local community, but also beyond. For the past 10 years, I have had the honor to support the stewardship of this beautiful community in a myriad of ways. If the walls of this place could talk, they would share countless stories of healing, transformation, and a striving to create a different world. A world that is more generous and generative. A world that doesn’t hold back from its potential to be in a right relationship with all things. Living in an equitable and loving world should be a birthright, and unfortunately, it is not. Help us carry the torch, offer a light on the path, so we can all walk towards the world together.
Building Beloved Community for 11 Years in Floyd County and Beyond
Springhouse envisions a world where all life thrives. Through our intergenerational school and community print shop, we are committed to creating a culture that takes care of life, one person and one community at a time. At large, the culture we live in does not care for vulnerability. Now more than ever, we need places to practice taking better care of vulnerability and living in ways that are in greater alignment with life.
Springhouse is a place for anyone who wants to practice living in ways that take better care of life. Though their programs have fees, Springhouse is committed to accessibility – no one is turned away for financial reasons.
This work will take generations. Your gift allows Springhouse to continue offering accessible and equitable programs for all.
