The YMCA at Virginia Tech's programs serve the New River Valley through initiatives that are focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. I've been a part of the Y since 2008 and still serve on its Board of Directors today, even though my physical home is no longer in the New River Valley. I believe it's so important to give back through my time, talent, and treasure, to an organization and community that gave so much to me during the most developmental years of my life.
In today's climate, so many causes that I've been aware of for so long through my lived experiences have finally reached the main stream. There are so many causes that could use and would accept our hard earned money, and it's for that reason that I don't make this ask lightly.
That's why, today, I've decided to match the donations I've made to the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL), Black Lives Matter (BLM), and the Grassroots Law Project in 2020.
If you've done the same, and you still have a few dollars laying around, I'd ask that you share it with the Y today, because the programs we've been working on (for example, Meals on Main to battle food insecurity related to the pandemic) are always timely and necessary. Moving forward, that will be no different. And we could, truly, use your help.
Thanks for considering, Go Hokies, and be well. :)
