MY Springhouse story!
Hi lovely reader, my name is Phoenix. I am 14 years old. I have been going to Springhouse for 2 years. The staff at Spring House are welcoming and kind and teach all the students how to do the same; they’re safe. This community has a meaning. We have values. We are welcoming and understanding. Going to Springhouse has made me more confident in myself in many ways. I truly appreciate the different ways we learn at Springhouse. Even though I have never gone to public school I can see a LOT of differences! At Springhouse there is learning to fit everyone's needs: we read and write and use computers, and we also make things, get up out of our chairs and act things out, sing and dance, learn from guests, take trips and bless one another regularly by telling our peers things we love and appreciate about about them. The staff care, and can help you have hope for the future.
One of our values at Springhouse is creativity, along with resiliency, connection, trust, individuality, and integrity. And one way I have been exploring my own creativity is through poetry. Here’s a poem I’ve written, just remember not everything in life has to rhyme:
She burned in the hottest of fires,
Then her ashes rose up in the wind.
The ashes went far.
They did not land until the wind let them go.
They landed in the forest only to be seen with the birds, bears and deer,
But they landed.
I’m not afraid to be alone
And help the earth grow gorgeous.
In the next rain, the ashes were washed down to the river.
They were brought downstream to the ocean.
They were bashed and bashed,
But they still ride the waves.
Eventually, they will land on the ocean floor,
Where it is dark, quiet and peaceful
And they will dissolve into the water…

Building Beloved Community for 11 Years in Floyd County and Beyond
Springhouse envisions a world where all life thrives. Through our intergenerational school and community print shop, we are committed to creating a culture that takes care of life, one person and one community at a time. At large, the culture we live in does not care for vulnerability. Now more than ever, we need places to practice taking better care of vulnerability and living in ways that are in greater alignment with life.
Springhouse is a place for anyone who wants to practice living in ways that take better care of life. Though their programs have fees, Springhouse is committed to accessibility – no one is turned away for financial reasons.
This work will take generations. Your gift allows Springhouse to continue offering accessible and equitable programs for all.
