Rebecca is Tending the Spring

My garden is wild these days. Or some would say it is wild. I would say it is a verdant place of experimentation and growth where living things can thrive. 

I work to help make it a place where raspberries bear fruit and where a flowering laurel can generously bloom day after day, month after month. This is a place where I have to wisely hold back the anemones from over-extending and tenderly encourage the hollyhocks to unfold. On the coldest of winter days, I look out to see that the contorted hazelnut is at its most beautiful, when everything is laid bare. My hope for this small patch of earth is to cultivate with care so that life can find a way to thrive. 

I think of this same concept with Springhouse. Its embodied hope is to be a living example of how we can be in community. A community rooted in vitality, belonging, and responsibility, with a vision to care for life that can inspire and inform a world beyond the Blue Ridge Mountains.

For me, my place in the “garden” of Springhouse is the seasonal meditations. In the mornings surrounding each equinox and solstice we gather, speak poetic words, sit in silence, and share with vulnerability, curiosity, and wisdom. It is the place where I can experiment and grow and find moments of ease. There is an abundance of landscapes across the generations within Springhouse for those that wish to find refuge and inspiration.
