Team Copper (9-11 years): Lighting the Way Forward

Knowledge is the light that guides us toward a brighter future, and our Copper students believe that light should shine for everyone. This fall, the class dove deep into learning adventures that took them from the pages of Frindle to the trails of Rock Castle Gorge, from creating word problems to baking cookies at Red Rooster, and from measuring square meters for a Mars colony plan to researching the cultural significance of recipes for their Global Cooking Project. Whether they're uncovering salamanders and crawdads in nature, debating synonyms for "dangerous," or working through reading groups and library visits, these students are building knowledge that creates opportunities.

As our Coppers tackle complex subjects like multiplication mastery, research skills, and critical thinking—even working together to craft class agreements that everyone can support—they recognize how learning builds upon itself. Through Neighbors Helping Neighbors, our Copper classes are committed to expanding scholarship opportunities so more students can experience the kind of rich, hands-on education we value. We believe every student deserves the chance to develop their talents, explore their interests, and illuminate their own path toward promising futures.
